Barbados is a snorkeling paradise
Bridgetown is the capital of the Atlantic Island Barbados. It is a town with 7.000 inhabitants. The most important export products are: rum, sugar and molasses (a kind of sirup). Besides that, tourism is the most important source of income.
In 1628 Bridgetown (at that time ‘Town of Saint Michael’) was founded as a British colony. Arowak-indians are the native inhabitant of the island. Barbados is independent since 1966 and is known for its flying fish and Rihanna. They speak English and they drive at the left side of the road. The island has the shape of a pear.
The Brownes Beach just south of Bridgetown has white sand and clear azure blue water. We walked from the cruise dock into the little town of Bridgetown with the famous Chamberlain bridge, what the town is named after. A beautiful beach was just on the other side of town and it was a pleasant walk of 5 kilometer walk.
Relax at this beach club in Barbados
At the beachclub The Boatyard you pay $25 per person. You get a wristband and a free drink. You can make use of the beach beds and a boat takes you (every hour) to a shipwreck where you can go snorkeling with beautiful tropical fishes. The equipment for snorkeling and the boat trip are included in the prize. After a perfect day at the beach, a cap takes you back to the cruiseterminal, which is also complimentary. The people were very friendly. Try the Flying Fish and Cou Cou which is the national dish. We were pleasantly surprised and had a great time in Barbados.
